learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. — Nelson Mandela
courage:the ability to do something that frightens one.

What do you want to be remembered for?

Do you want to be remembered for what you achieved, your fame or any other type of superficial title you created to put value and meaning in that which is devoid of it. Only a few things in life truly matter and living a life filled with a profile of courage is paramount thus it should be central in the way in which we live our lives.

The result of courage is what created all that we see around us that is good and all that is evil is what is manifested when the good people lack the courage to fight. All the people we look up to and admire for example Nelson Mandela, all shared one common trait — they had the courage to dream about a better world but perhaps more importantly they had the courage to dare chase and make their dreams a reality. Throughout history there had to be men and women of courage who stood up against oppression to fight for the very same rights we know take for granted. They say “politics is a dirty game” when what should be said is men and women of our day lack the courage to fight especially when it means they have to risk their lives. It would be said that courage is dying.

How else would one confidently say they know themselves, if it is for anything it is that: the exploration of one’s being is only ever true complete when the exhaustion of courage occurs. How can you with any moralistic integrity say you know yourself if you have not tested the true limits of ones capabilities and character, it takes courage for one to do so. True living is being comfortable outside of our comfort zone.

A life filled with courage even gone unrecognised is as noble an endeavour as any. For real change to happen one must first change themselves then proceed to fight for those who have no strength upon which to exert courage. To achieve success courage must be evident and present throughout the journey filled with obstacles and challenges. To invoke courage in one’s life in the name of the betterment of others gives them strength to fight for what the believe in.

The beauty of courage is that it does not discriminate nor is it racial, gender specific or stereotypical. It is pure, it strengths those who are weak, gives faith to those without belief and provides hope to those who have given up.

If ever a profile was to be compiled in summary of a human life it should read of courage and leave a legacy that gives courage to others.
